Mental Health Practicum and Alcohol and Drug Counseling Internship Opportunities

Pride Institute is excited to work with students and new professionals. If you are a student in an alcohol and drug counseling training program or a graduate student in psychology, counseling, social work or marriage and family therapy, please be aware of the following:

Mental Health Practicum Students Expectations

  • Must be available a minimum of 20 hours per week, including at least one weekend per month
  • Must be enrolled in a master’s degree program
  • Maintain a caseload of six to eight patients
  • Co-facilitate and facilitate one to two groups per week
  • Observe CD groups
  • Conduct mental health consultations
  • Develop treatment plans
  • Participate actively during case consultation
  • Attend staffing, supervision and group supervision meetings
  • Demonstrate professionalism in their conduct
  • Discuss theoretical issues, diagnostic and assessment concerns, clinical technique, therapeutic process, personal reactions and countertransferential concerns as well as other topics relevant to case material or professional development
  • Complete documentation in a timely and professional manner in accordance with facility requirements, statutes and ethics boards
  • Integrate feedback in a timely manner; demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn
  • Participate in a collaborative work environment
  • Conduct themselves in a manner required by the code of conduct of Pride Institute, Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, the American Counseling Association and other regulatory boards

Alcohol and Drug Counseling Internship Students Expectations

  • Residential — Must be available for at least 28 hours per week, four days per week between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm as well as one weekend per month
  • IOP — Must be available at least 28 hours per week, four weekdays per week including some evening hours
  • Facilitate one to two psychoeducational groups per week
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments
  • Develop treatment plans
  • Facilitate small process group one time per week
  • Maintain a caseload of two to three clients
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary staff meetings
  • Consult and collaborate with other professionals
  • Participate in case management activities
  • Actively participate in individual and group supervision
  • Facilitate individual counseling sessions
  • Complete documentation, including weekly progress notes and weekly treatment plan reviews
  • Utilize the ASAM dimensions and DSM 5 for assessment and diagnosing
  • Demonstrate professionalism in their conduct
  • Perform all core functions of addiction counseling
